After escaping from the belly of WoW, I found that I had no outlet of anything artistic. Semi-randomly I had a burst of inspiration during a writing assignment I was able to create a short story that normally I wouldn't be able to write. I haven't been able to find that sort of inspiration since.
I tend to read quite a bit of Fantasy/Sci-fi, It used to inspire me a very large amount. Lately, not so much. I have a feeling its because of my sickness, getting both better and worse (but thats another story all together, and i shoulnt muck up this topic with that.)
But as the title suggests, I am just wondering what keeps you all inspired to create your art, stories or even just in general?

(EDIT:Not completely sure if it should go here or Discussion)

I require an outlet for my emotions, hence my writing and drawing, spriting is just something I do to cure my boredom, of which so far I've just sprited characters in my soon to be written story.
I've drawn so far title covers and character designs cause I'm going to draw a manga, maybe, about my life, but make it like a fantasy kinda story, just so people can understand me a bit more but also enjoy it. As for writing at the moment, just emotional poems. lol.

tl;dr.
Emotionally venting and boredom curing. :/

Myself. I have motivation for doing certain things more than others, but other than that it's just that I have what it takes to forcibly will myself into doing most anything.

edit: Well, in order to add more fuel to the fire (or be more specific, rather), I guess what motivates me the most is desire. I feel very satisfied when I succeed - I did fairly well on both of the tests I had to take this week, and although I've already had a massive problem to deal with this week, I still feel pretty motivated to succeed, no matter what.

I can thank what adversities I faced earlier than these in life for my own resolve, though.

The simplest way for me to put it is that I try to find inspiration from everything. Literally everything. Whatever I had for lunch, the color of a leaf on the ground, the smell of my shampoo, anything. If it gives me an idea, I see where I can go with it.

Though that doesn't necessarily mean that all of the ideas I get are worth following through with. ;>>

Everything, anything, and nothing.

Everything and Anything --
Anything can be inspiration for me. A shape, a shadow, a function --something. It just has to fascinate me somehow. Like, a pair of pliers, for example. It's nothing special by itself, but it pinches, it has serrated teeth. That could somehow translate into a weapon design or something. It doesn't even have to make sense.

Nothing --
I'm an exceedingly boring person, and random ideas pop into my head as a result. Spontaneous, yes, but still effective.

I dunno, I'm rather odd, so I gain inspiration in waves, with one thing piling into the next, and so on. Listening to music helps.

In high school I had this absolutely amazing art teacher, and whenever I was in his class I created award winning pieces. (like I probably would have gotten a gold in scholastics my Senior year if I had finished a week earlier, and I know this to be true because someone with a similar pot to mine got gold and mine was better)
I never wanted to do art as a very serious thing though. Its always been play for me. I think if I were to become very serious about art I would lose my abilities.

In school I like learning, so I stay focused. But when I do get stuck I think about how much I want to become a microbiologist, and that <insert whatever has me stuck here> is only a step along the way. My 2 year goal is to transfer to RPI, which is an amazing math/science school in upstate NY, and in order to do that I need a very very high GPA, and some experience. So I'm snatching at every opportunity I can find to keep or get those things.

I suggest looking around for something that peaks your curiosity and go from there.

Music is my biggest inspiration. If I'm not having a good day, there are certain albums that never fail to leave me refreshed. A huge amount of my art is inspired by music somehow. There are artists who inspire me, too, but I'll usually just take a few little bits of their style and incorporate it into mine.

Of course, this backfires when I try to make music, because I'll be like "I can never sing as well as this singer" or whatever, and when I try to write I'll have the tune stuck in my head and it'll get in the way of making up my own melody. So for that, I take inspiration from current events, real life drama, etc.

For me, mangas I read, animes, movies, music pretty much get the ball rolling for me.

I try to kinda sit and let the music kinda hit the right, tune you can say and let my mind synch up with the music and see what happens.

I mean I'm in the same boat when it comes to trying to come up with something new, I try to switch it up a little with new music, see something new, switch mediums and stuff. But I always seem to let music kinda guide me in what art I make, I find hearing to be one of my stronger senses so you can say I kinda see my imagination with my ears.

Pretty much this for me. The greater variety of music you listen to, the more places you can find inspiration, and the more varied your inspiration will be.

My area of artistic expertise these days is mainly in music though, so music just inspires more music for me. I'm not much of a songwriter yet, but I'm striving to become one. I'm more of a music maker as opposed to a creator though, anyways. Hearing a kickass bass/sax/clarinet player just makes me want to better myself. And get a cool effect pedal. ;__;

Well, I suppose anything can inspire me, it just comes at unexpected moment. Heck, sometimes I don't need anything to inspire me, the idea just pops into my head.

That said, now this to be said; Inspiration is overrated. There are more important creative possess than just expecting the good ideas to just pop into your head.

Ooh, I get to be the creepy one again! :D

I get inspiration from the darker moments of history and life. Like, I thrive off of stories of the darker side of humanity. And it's not because I'm particularly sadistic, it's just the I get ideas from there. For example, I was briefly writing a story back in high school about child abuse and child exploitation but was asked to stop writing the story by my psychiatrist. I'd have to say that it comes down to me expressing what suffering is like for children, since many adults seem to forget just how aware of the world children are.

Also, music is awesome. I <# the violin and piano.

Much like Aeo, Everything lets my ADD run wild and i end up just coming up with images in my head, mostly dark ones but thats besides the point. Being an avid anime and game nut, i do get alot of ideas from them(White haired main character http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u62/Fire_Emblem_New_Dawn/Board%20Stuff/Emoticons/awesome.gif ).
